You need to remove the trim that gives access to change the lamps to gain access to the manual release:

As said above to locate the hoop. Regarding the lock, I was told that the rod can dry out, and so a bit of grease on the rod / motor should sort the problem. Else it's a new motor.

I've had the same problem but so far gotten away with locking and unlocking the car, got the thing to unlock. I then located the loop to do the manual release just incase. But I think V70seeker's point of greasing the thing is going to happen this weekend.:)

Located the loop, took off the trim and unscrewed the bolt in the boot and the two in the petrol flap. The rod was dried up, fired WD40 all over it tried it again and it works yeharr. Cheers Dan

Congrats, Dan - thanks for letting us know, too. Just one more question - I was possibly just being dumb when I looked but I couldn't see how to get to the bolt on the inside of the car. When you say you removed the trim do you mean something a bit more complicated than the bit covering access to the rear lights? It looked to me as if I'd have to lift the trim which formed a single piece covering the wheel arch and everything and it didn't look that simple. Did I miss something obvious? Ta, Pete
