MID-SIDE EQ setup like this

MessageAuthor

Okay, I've started considering to start using Reaper as my main daw since I like the workflow a lot more than ableton. I want to setup same kind of buses like I had in ableton though. Is it possible to setup this kind of mid-side eq bus track or just as effect on single track like in this video ? There is bus track with MID (centered, mono) signal which has it's own EQ. And SIDE (200% width, only the far sides of stereo signal) with it's own EQ in same bus track. So when sending audio signal to this bus track you can eq(or any other effects) the mid and side separately. thanks!

Here's a tool I created to simplify doing what you're suggesting with any plugins within the routing of a single track...

95 Dakar ///M3 TMS Intake and Euro HFM Kit , TrackPipe, UUC System U Exhaust, Clutch Stop, BMP Strut Bar, BMP slotted front rotors, UUC Sway Barbarians , Mb highs, Fosgate mids and 3 Fosgate H2 10's. *Painted moldings not pictured*

RE: MID-SIDE EQ setup like this

Digging up an old thread. I'm trying to learn a bit more about increasing the stereo presence in my mixes. I have two mono guitar parts; one panned left and one right. These are a member of a stereo folder. Let's say for instance I want to take some of the lows/low-mids out of the sides and scoop some of the mids out of the center to increase the perceived stereo image of the distorted guitars; would I set up a bus track with a mid/side EQ and send it to the master? Would I keep the original tracks from going to the master and only allow the buss track with the mid/side filter to be sent? I think folders do this inherently. Please school me in laymen's terms.

I put the mid and side channels in a folder track and pan each hard left and right. I pull the side back in the MSED plug so it doesn't get too warbly when the singer or acoustic guitar move around the mic. You can adjust to taste. The more you push up the side on MSED, the more you get the stereo movement and image. You can put eq on each track too if that is your goal. I usually add a high pass after the MSED on the folder track. The MSED plug is only on the folder track and is set to DECODE mode so it decodes the left / right channels. I have a cardiod Cad 8000 on mid and a fig8 cad 7000 ribbon on side. Works great and sounds fantastic. Add reverb to taste.

RE: MID-SIDE EQ setup like this

Coachz helped me understand how it works, but I'm interested in other ways it's being used; during mixdown phase. Let's say I have the normal instruments for a rock song; bass, distorted guitar, drums and vocals. The vocals, kick drum, snare drum and bass guitar are usually straight up the middle. The guitar, toms and cymbals are usually the sides. Would I add all middle tracks(with associated busses) into the MSED folder and pan them left and all of the side tracks(with associated busses) into the same folder and pan them right? Would this MSED folder be the only thing being sent to the master? Am I making this too complicated? I need some use case scenarios. Thanks.
